Celebrate the Year of the Rat with us in Chinatown!


FCCNE and CCI (China's Children International) are teaming up at the Pao Arts Center with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center once again for a special Lunar New Year Celebration!

On Sunday February 2 from 10:00am to 4:00pm, the biggest Lunar New Year parades in New England take over Boston's Chinatown, with troupes of colorful lion dancers performing on the streets and in restaurants and businesses.

Watch the lion dance parades on the streets of Chinatown, then stop by the Pao Arts Center anytime from 11:00am to 3:00pm to warm up and enjoy fun family-friendly lunar new year activities, including: 

• storytelling with Company One Theatre
• Chinese and English calligraphy demonstrations with Rayna Lo
• art making with the Museum of Fine Arts
• our popular Lunar Wish Tree and low key lunar new year themed activities with FCCNE and CCI (This is also a good place to get away from the noisy firecrackers if anyone is scared!)
  

Register ahead to take part in these special workshops:

• 12:00pm, 1:00 pm or 2:00pm - FREE 30 minute Lion Dance Workshops for 5-12 years old with Nüwa Athletic Club. Are your kids excited by the colors, sounds, and movements of Chinese Lion Dance on the streets of Chinatown? Come inside and learn the steps of this traditional Chinese dance yourself and ring in the new year!  FREE but space is limited so please register here with BCNC.

• 11:00am - 12:30pm - Learn How to Make Dumplings $30 per person includes food. Pre-registration required with BCNC - register HERE. Space is LIMITED. Dumplings are a popular Chinese dish symbolizing wealth and prosperity for the new year. Learn how to make, fold, shape, and cook dumplings with BCNC community member Forra Yu!.  Forra will lead the class in making both meat and vegetarian dumplings.

Directions: The Pao Arts Center is located in the One Greenway building, 99 Kneeland Street. For GPS driving directions, use 66 Hudson Street, Boston, MA 02111. From Hudson Street, walk up the stairs and across the deck to the 99 Albany Street entrance. The public parking garage entrance is on Hudson Street. The Pao Arts Center is accessible by the MBTA green, red, and orange lines.
